Spores, both bacterial and fungal, pose a risk to cleanroom environments. This article presents an overview of spores and considers the microbiological aspects of their ability to spread and survive in the inhospitable environment of the cleanroom. A second article will consider sporicidal disinfectants for cleanrooms. Bacterial spores and fungal spores both pose risks to pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. They are, however, biologically different. This article examines both spore types.
← Close.Particle deposition in cleanrooms is a primary concern for industries manufacturing critical products with surfaces highly susceptible to particulate contamination. Limited research has been conducted to measure the deposited particles in cleanrooms. In the context of ISO 14644-3:2005, this paper describes the measurement of particle deposition in real-time by an innovative device: CLEAPART-100. CLEAPART-100 detects the same contamination events that are detected by airborne particle counters.
Keywords: particulate contamination, particle deposition, real-time device, cleanroom

As a result, the demand has grown for published standards and other documents to address these developments. This article describes IEST-RP-NANO205, a new recommended practice for nano facility safety; ISO/DIS 14644-12, a standard for monitoring the concentration of airborne nanoparticles; and other nanotechnology-related documents of interest to cleanroom designers and users.
← Close. The biennial International Symposium of Contamination Control (ISCC) was held in the Rebouças Convention Center in São Paulo, Brazil from 20 to 23 September 2016. The symposium was preceded by two Working Group (WG) meetings of ISO Technical Committee TC 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments - WG 3 (Test methods) and WG 4 (Design, construction and start up), a board meeting of ICCCS (International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies) and a Cleanroom Testing course for professionals. The ISCC was followed by a technical tour at the Immunization Institute Butantan. Those that were able to participate reported that they were very impressed.
